The Sioux City Railroad Museum is one of those recurring stops that The Siouxville Grinch keeps returning to — and for good reason. Kids exploring vintage locomotives and railcars have absolutely no idea what's about to happen when the Grinch comes around the corner.
Trains and a Grinch
There is something uniquely wonderful about a holiday character appearance in a museum setting. Children are already in a state of wide-eyed wonder — and then suddenly, between the historic engines and the railroad memorabilia, there's a six-foot green holiday villain.
The reactions are spectacular every single time. Some kids are mid-sentence about a locomotive when they spot him and just stop talking completely. Others immediately abandon whatever exhibit they were looking at and make a beeline straight for the Grinch at full speed.
The Little Girl Who Wanted a Hug
One moment from this appearance stands out above the rest. A little girl — maybe four years old — who had been studying a display very seriously for several minutes, turned around, looked the Grinch dead in the eyes, walked straight up to him, and opened her arms for a hug.
No fear. No hesitation. Just absolute, unconditional acceptance of a large green grumpy holiday creature. It is a moment that will never be forgotten.
💚 Thank you, Sioux City Railroad Museum, for being such a wonderful recurring partner.
